The Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1888. The Lakewood Fire Department is a combination department. There are currently 50 active firefighters and support members in the volunteer fire department.
The Career Division of the Department was started in the 1950s and currently employs 33 firefighters and officers, which includes the Chief of Department.
The Fire Headquarters are located at 733 Cedar Bridge Avenue.
The Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department consists of four fire companies. The stations are:
Engine Co #1, 119 First Street
Rescue Co #2, 1350 Lanes Mills Road
Jr. Hose Co #3, 976 New Hampshire Avenue
Jr. Hose Co #3 170 Lafayette Blvd. (Substation)
Reliance Hose Co #4, 300 River Avenue
Career Fire Stations are located at 800 Monmouth Avenue and 735 Cedar Bridge Avenue
